Epidemiology Department

The Department of Epidemiology is dedicated to studying the patterns, causes, and impacts of health and disease across diverse populations. By identifying factors  that contribute to various health outcomes, the department aims to advance evidence-based approaches in public health and shape effective health policies. A major focus is Chronic Disease Epidemiology, where researchers investigate the risk factors, prevention strategies, and health outcomes linked to prevalent chronic conditions. The insights gained are intended to support public health initiatives and inform policy decisions aimed at reducing the burden of these diseases. Beyond chronic disease, the department places a strong emphasis on Occupational and Environmental Medicine, concentrating on how workplace and environmental conditions impact individuals' health and well-being.

Chronic Disease and Epidemiology

The Division of Chronic Disease Epidemiology adopts a life-course perspective on chronic diseases that heavily impact individuals and society. We focus on prevention, treatment, and risk/benefit analysis for conditions like cancer, cardiovascular and lung diseases, and mental illness, targeting common risk factors such as physical inactivity, poor diet, obesity, substance abuse, and socio-demographics. Our expertise in key health metrics enables large-scale efforts to promote health and reduce disease burden.
