Short Biography

Vasileios Nittas is an epidemiologist and Senior Researcher at the EBPI. His work examines how digital technologies can meaningfully support chronic disease prevention and management. His research spans across digital epidemiology, digital public health, and digital health ethics. He has extensive experience in mixed-methods research, evidence synthesis (scoping and systematic reviews), randomized controlled trials, and cohort studies. Vasileios’ work is person-centered, with a growing focus on culturally sensitive and equitable digital health.

Vasileios has graduated in Public Health from the University of Maastricht (2016), holds an MSc in Evidence-Based Social Policy from the University of Oxford (2017), and earned his PhD (Dr. sc. nat., 2021) in Epidemiology from the University of Zurich. Before his current position, Vasileios held a Swiss National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship at Brown University and completed postdoctoral appointments at the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich’s Health Ethics & Policy Lab. He has served as a committee member of the European Public Health Parliament Initiative and contributed to national COVID-19 policy projects in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

Vasileios currently serves as Associate Editor at the International Journal of Public Health and previously served as Editor-in-Chief of the journal’s Young Researcher Editorial Series.
