Short Biography
Sofia Strukova is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Digital and Mobile Health at the Institute of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Prevention. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Murcia, Spain, where her research integrated big data analytics and computational social science.
In her current position, her research focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence into health research, with a particular emphasis on multiple sclerosis. She investigates how emerging data modalities, including patient narratives, digital interactions, and other forms of real-world data, can be used to derive novel outcomes relevant to patients and healthcare providers, complementing traditional clinical and survey-based measures and informing healthcare decision-making.
Building on existing digital and AI technologies, she develops tools and analytical frameworks that facilitate the adoption of advanced computational methods in health research, making them scalable, reusable, and accessible to a broader community of researchers. Her work includes the design and development of privacy-preserving Natural Language Processing systems that extract psychological, behavioral, and emotional insights from unstructured text. Using large language models, machine learning, and statistical methods, she analyzes free-text responses and survey data from health research initiatives, including the Swiss Multiple Sclerosis Registry.
