Personalised medicine(PM) has generated hopes and expectations for improving health and wellbeing. At the same time, it poses new ethical and societal challenges
in relation to individual autonomy, privacy and personal responsibility for the common good. PM cannot truly deliver on its promise unless such ethical challenges are dealt with adequately and in a manner worthy of inspiring public confidence and trust. The project outlined here aims to tackle some of these pressing ethical questions and to develop an ethical framework within which the goals of personalized medicine may be ethically advanced. Using a combination of empirical methods and normative analysis it will produce concrete recommendations capable of guiding the policy decisions that urgently need to be made in this area.
