Seraina Rüegger is Scientific Director of the Population Research Center at the University of Zurich since 2023. 

 

Before joining UZH, Seraina worked at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) as an expert on Ukraine. Prior to that, she was a senior researcher in the International Conflict Research group at ETH Zurich, where she coordinated several research projects. She also led large-N data collection and updates about ethnic groups worldwide and their access to state decision-making. As a lecturer, she taught courses on conflict research and forced migration at ETH Zurich and the Universities of Basel, Lucerne and Zurich. 

 

She received her PhD from ETH Zurich in 2013 and holds a master's degree in Political Science from the University of Zurich (2009). From January to July 2013, Seraina was a visiting scholar at the University of Prishtina in Kosovo.
